Pieter balances technology-specific knowledge with looking at the bigger picture. With plenty of experience in automation-related technologies, he likes learning about a wide variety of concepts related to the projects he works on, even in his free time.
Pieter discovered his passion for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) during high school, a fascination that continued through his studies as an electromechanical engineer. His expertise in PLCs naturally led him to pursue a career centered around this technology.
For nearly his entire career, Pieter worked as a system engineer at an industrial integration company. This role allowed him to learn more about how PLCs and SCADA systems worked in the field, but it also revealed the stagnation that can occur without continuous innovation. Most of his sixteen years in this role were spent maintaining and patching legacy hardware and software, sometimes even dealing with systems that had long ceased to receive support.
Concerned by the security risks and economic challenges of outdated hardware and software, Pieter began researching modern SCADA systems. He quickly discovered the potential of the Ignition platform and dedicated his free time to mastering it.
Motivated by its possibilities, Pieter sought an employer that would support his continuous learning and allow him to apply his newfound knowledge. Pieter found Coretecs through the list of integrators on Ignition's website and was impressed by our commitment to personal growth and career autonomy.
During his first interview, Pieter bonded with one of our integration experts over shared frustrations with outdated hardware and software. As he puts it, there was an immediate click, and he knew that Coretecs was the right place for him. He's happy with the level of confidence we put in his expertise and the respect he receives, and we're happy to have him on board!
When he's not delving into new technologies, Pieter enjoys going for walks, tinkering with his 3D printer, and improving his lap times in sim racing.
