What is it?
Technical detail

Ignition is a SCADA platform at its core, but it's also so much more than that. We often refer to it as a “universal SCADA” for your entire industrial operation, because it also handles basic MES, historian, HMI and DataOps needs in addition to being an excellent SCADA. Think of it as a complete industrial toolkit, all within a single, unified platform.

Besides its universal capabilities, Ignition also caught our attention with how it started. This isn't your grandfather's SCADA system: it's built from the ground up with modern IT principles in mind, and it shows. Ignition installs quickly, runs pretty much everywhere, and scales great. Combine that with cost-effective licenses, and you'll understand why we're proud to call ourselves a Gold Certified Integrator.

How do we use it?

Ignition is our SCADA platform of choice, and we use it as a Swiss Army Knife across a wide range of industrial challenges. We create standardised data models with User Defined Types, use protocol conversion to connect OT and IT systems, design user-friendly HTLM5-based interfaces, and much more.

For most of our clients, Ignition doesn't replace their existing SCADA system. We tend to use it as an extra overarching layer to centralise and standardise visualisation and data access across silos. Our goal is to use Ignition's versatility to build integrated, scalable, and practical solutions that truly improve your operations, step by step.

Want a SCADA platform that's modern, versatile, and cost-effective? Here’s why Ignition stands out.

Connect, design, deploy

We like using Ignition's own tagline when introducing it to our clients, because it perfectly summarises their approach. Connect everything, design anything, deploy everywhere – and make it all surprisingly straightforward.

  • It effortlessly talks to all your equipment, regardless of brand or protocol, and bridges the gap to your IT systems and databases.
  • Its integrated designer is packed with software modules, tools and libraries that make development surprisingly intuitive.
  • The web-based deployment model lets you instantly launch clients on any device: desktops, industrial displays, and even your phone.

One platform, endless possibilities

Besides being a top-tier SCADA platform, Ignition also packs plenty of features for basic MES, HMI and data historian functions. It's a great foundation for companies with smaller production sites and general use cases, but it's also ready for when you need more.

For companies with highly specialised needs, Ignition's open architecture is key. It integrates seamlessly with best-of-breed tools like Canary's historian, allowing us to build high-end solutions. So: you get the versatility of Ignition where it counts, and the specialised power of other platforms where you need a bit more, all working together.

Next-generation SCADA

Unlike older SCADA systems, Ignition is built on trusted IT standards like SQL, Python, MQTT and OPC UA. It's not a facelift on existing older tech, but a fundamentally different architecture, designed for the web from day one.

This next-gen approach means you get a SCADA system that's more flexible and accessible. Web-based deployment is built-in, not bolted-on, so updates are instant, clients run anywhere, and you're not chained to outdated software models. And if you need to develop something, Ignition comes with a powerful free IDE.

Cost-effective scaling

Most SCADA licenses charge for every tag, connection, and user. Ignition flips that model on its head: you pay for one server license, and you get unlimited tags, connections, clients and designers.

It's one of the main reasons why we tend to choose Ignition for our SCADA projects, since it futureproofs our clients’ systems for growth. When you decide to scale up your operations, add more devices or expand your team, Ignition grows with you without any hidden costs.

Try it out for free

If you'd like to get started with Ignition, you can do so for free. The trial offers the full platform with the exact same functionality as a as a fully licensed setup. Build your entire application, test every feature, and see Ignition in action, all without spending a cent.

The only catch? The gateway will time-out every two hours and you'll need to restart it. But that's honestly a small price to pay for unlimited free access to a powerhouse platform. And when you're ready to go beyond the trial and deploy Ignition for your real operations, we're here to help you set it up.
